Clubbing together for life-changing operation

Evesham Editorial 1st Jun, 2017   0

KIND-HEARTED staff from Evesham based Karndean Designflooring teed off to raise £1,320 in support of local fund-raising campaign, Footsteps for Lewis.

The money from the event from the charity golf tournament at Bidford-Upon-Avon Golf Club will go towards a life changing operation and physiotherapy for six-year-old Lewis Langstone who has cerebral palsy.

Karndean sponsored the event and entered a team of four after a request from Dan Curry, lifelong friend of Lewis’ dad, Stewart Langstone.

Other local companies who took part included Howdens Joinery, Millvale Building Services, Evesham Trade Centre, County Building Supplies, IDS Transport, SM Plastering, Acorn Creative Signs, and Scott’s Plant.

As well as sponsoring the event, Karndean also walked off the fairways with the trophy and a prize of a round of golf donated by The Vale Golf and Country Club.

Dan said: “I decided to organise this event as Lewis’ parents, Stewart and Laura, have been successfully fund-raising for several years and every penny helps the family get one step closer to reaching the final total needed.”

“It was a great pleasure to organise the event on behalf of Footsteps for Lewis, however, it would not have taken place without the generosity of all the sponsors and the teams who entered.”

“The day was great fun, the weather was kind, and most importantly we raised a substantial sum of money.

“We’re looking forward to next year’s event which I hope will be even bigger,” he added.

Although Lewis has made good progress since his diagnosis he needs an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which is not typically funded by the NHS.

As well as the operation and physiotherapy, the cash will also go towards specialist equipment to help Lewis in his day to day life.

Lewis’ father Stewart, said: “Footsteps for Lewis has grown with the help of some amazing people, who have organised events, given up their time and donated money.

“Without their generous help, we don’t know where we would be today. The golf day was a magnificent success – Dan Curry did a superb job,” he added.

Matthew Brown, national trade manager of Karndean Designflooring, said: “Our team had a fantastic day at the golf tournament and it was an absolute pleasure to be the main sponsors, raising funds for a very worthy cause which will help Lewis going forward.

“We’re proud to have been involved and we appreciate the huge effort made by Dan and all who made this event possible,” he added.
