STAFF at two Evesham supermarkets will be swapping food for football in the annual Retail Challenge Cup.

Morrisons staff will come up against Tesco’s finest next Sunday (August 5) in the special charity match to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

The match has been played each year since 1998, when Tesco staff member Mark Payne decided to raise money for St Richard’s following the death of his mother, Gill Payne, who was cared for and supported at the hospice.

This year’s star player will be awarded the Man of the Match in memory of Shirley Barber, a much loved member of staff at Tesco who passed away suddenly last year.

Her nephew, former Evesham United striker Lance Smith, will present the award on the day. A raffle and tombola will be among the attractions off the pitch and all the money raised on the day will be doubled by Barclays Bank.

Admission for the match which takes place at Evesham United’s Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium is £2 for adults and £1 for children under 12. Kick-off is at 6pm.
