Brave Oscar's parents hope others will be inspired

BRAVE Oscar Saxelby-Lee’s mum and dad have revealed their hope the five-year-old’s story will inspire other children in their fight against childhood cancer.

Olivia Saxelby and Jamie Lee revealed their wish as the paid heartfelt tributes to all those who have raised funds to enable Oscar to receive treatment in SIngapore in his fight against T-Call Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Last week’s rugby match between West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police saw the total rise beyond £585,000 in aid of the brave Pitmaston Primary School youngster.

The couple said they had been ‘bowled over’ by the generosity shown throughout Oscar’s fight and the incredible total was more than they dared hope for.

“We have made the joint decision with the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust that any funds donated for Oscar up to £600,000 will be ringfenced for his use,” they said.

“This is what we need to fund the Car-T cell treatment and to have some contingency if his recovery was a little more prolonged.

“We are so grateful to the people of Worcestershire and beyond for making this possible. Please do not stop fund-raising.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done. Each of you have in some way brightened up Oscar’s future.

“We want Oscar’s story to help other children too. Any funds raised over the £600,000 mark will be used to help fund research into childhood cancers.

“What we would love is to have enough funds that we can fund a piece of research into Oscar’s type of cancer in his name so he can help the many others who may find themselves in a similar situation,” they added.

Donations can still be made at uk.virginmoneygiving.com and search for Hand in Hand for Oscar.

The family have set up another fund-raising page to aid them with costs they may face along the way during Oscar’s recovery.
