Attendance levels for schools across the county rise

Evesham Editorial 29th Nov, 2020   0

ATTENDANCE levels for schools across the county have now risen again above the national levels in Worcestershire after a fall in recent weeks.

Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Children First would like to thank staff at the county’s schools and settings, for their support and commitment to the provision and education of children and young people.

There has also been a lower number of schools, colleges, nurseries and people being affected by Coronavirus.

In the last two weeks, the county’s schools have seen 40 per cent fewer bubbles fully or partially collapsed and a 57 per cent decrease in pupils and staff affected by Coronavirus.

Sarah Wilkins, Director of Education and Early Help, said: “The decision on our post lockdown tier of restrictions will have been possible as a result of the phenomenal efforts and commitment of everyone working across Worcestershire including our settings and schools.

Our headteachers, college leaders and early years leaders have worked tirelessly to ensure that the education sector has continued to hold a strong grip of COVID-19 measures. The pandemic has really shown what the school community of Worcestershire can come together and achieve even in the most difficult of times.”

Coun Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: “The positive upturn in figures we have seen in recent weeks has been great to see. It couldn’t have been achieved without the continued hard work all of the headteachers, college leaders and early years leaders and their support and dedication in ensuring the children and young people of Worcestershire are able to continue their education. I’d also like to say a huge thank you to our students and staff, who have seen classroom life completely transformed since the start of the school year, but have made learning and progress happen regardless.

“I have seen first-hand on my recent school visits the excellent work schools are doing to keep them safe and open to educate our children and young people.”

All pupils across Worcestershire were welcomed back into school in September, and since then almost all schools have remained open throughout this time.
