A POPULAR Bretforton band will take to the stage during the world famous Asparagus auction and draw at the Fleece Inn.

Bretforton Silver Band will be among the entertainment at the popular event on Sunday (May 24) from 7pm.

Auctioneer Colin Jelfs, will be head of proceedings auctioning some of the best asparagus the Vale has to offer and hundreds of hopeful bidders will gather to try and win the most impressive asparagus available.

The highlight of the evening will be the exhibition ‘Hundred of Asaparagus’, 1,120 spears tied in the traditional manner by local grower Bill Byrd.

The band, now in its 120th year, started the asparagus auction and draw in the 1970s to raise money for a new set of instruments and in true tradition all profits from this years event will go towards their instrument fund.

The band would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who makes an event like this possible and hopes everyone will join them in celebrating their 120 years.
