Abbey Park in running for top national honour

Evesham Editorial 17th Jul, 2019   0

A POPULAR park in Evesham is officially in the running to become the UK’s Best Park 2019. Abbey Park has been nominated for the prestigious accolade which celebrates the nation’s parks and green spaces.

People will have until Monday, August 19 to vote for the park, after which the shortlist will be announced.

The one park with the highest number of public votes in each of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be shortlisted and the overall winner announced in mid-September.

Originally the grounds to Evesham Abbey on the River Avon, Abbey Park boasts a popular café, lily pool, picnic areas, as well as children’s play areas and a splash pad.

It is also the site of numerous community events throughout the year, including walking groups, summer holiday activities such as puppet shows and circus skills, as well as events like the Battle of Evesham.

Emily Jeavons, Parks and Greenspace Officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are extremely proud of our parks and green spaces which are enjoyed by people of all ages.

“We are so excited that Evesham’s Abbey Park is in the running and I would urge everyone to vote. It would be a wonderful achievement for Wychavon to officially have the UK’s Best Park!”
