A RIGHT Royal celebration will be held as Evesham and Pershore will be decked in red, white and blue as they prepare to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There are 50 street parties and several larger organised events taking place across the district over the Jubilee weekend of June 2 to 5.

Wychavon has provided more than £10,000 to 49 town and parish councils to support jubilee celebrations as well as organising road closure notices for free.

Some of the events taking place include the Bretforton Platinum Jubilee Proms next Saturday (June 4) at 3pm at the recreation ground off Station Road. The free event includes music, theatre, dancing and fireworks.

In Broadway a Jubilee Community Event is planned from June 2 to 5 including a procession with floats, classic car show, live music, stalls and The Big Lunch community picnic. Most events are free, but a £10 refundable deposit is required to reserve a place for The Big Lunch. More details are available on the Broadway Parish Council website.

In Evesham residents and businesses can take part in the Best Dressed Jubilee competition. Entries must be registered by June 1. More details are available on the Evesham Town Council website.

Then on Sunday, June 5 from midday to 4pm there is a Jubilee Picnic in the Park in Abbey Park with live entertainment from the bandstand.

Honeybourne’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations take place on Honeybourne Recreational Field from June 2 to 5 and include beacon lighting, the Village In Bloom competition, village fete and the Jubilee Pageant and Big Street Party.

There will also be a big screen showing jubilee events happening in London.

Pershore is hosting The Big Lunch in Abbey Park with live music on the bandstand from midday to 2.30pm on Sunday, 5 June. At 4pm there will be a service of celebration at Pershore Abbey with everyone invited.

Beacon lightings are also taking place between 9pm and 10pm on Thursday, June 2 in several locations.

Coun Rob Adams, executive board member for Stronger Communities, Culture and Sport on Wychavon District Council, said: “After being forced to stay apart for so long, it is wonderful to see communities across Wychavon embracing the opportunity to come together to celebrate this momentous occasion for our country.”
