Badsey make a winning start

AFTER a busy summer and pre-season, Badsey Ladies began their league campaign with a hard fought win over a tough Tenbury side on Saturday.

The initial exchanges were cagey before Badsey began to get into their stride and dominate possession through midfielders Shelly Banner, Kay Amphlett and captain Laura Moore.

With Karen Robinson finding lots of space on the left the home side attacked relentlessly and, after several near misses, player of the match Robinson beat the keeper at the near post after another fine solo run.

The home side had more opportunities to increase their lead through a series of short corners but were unable to convert and Tenbury then began to play their way back into the game and drew level before half time.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with chances falling to both sides, however Badsey made the most of theirs whilst the visitors did not, thanks to some determined defending.

Firstly Zoe Hodgkins netted from close range before Badsey extended their lead ten minutes from time with another breakaway goal which was finished by Lynne Ellarby, who pounced on a loose ball in the circle and fired into the net to ensure victory.

On Saturday (noon) Badsey travel to Leominster to play the return fixture against Tenbury and the visitors are expecting another tough test.
