THE MAYOR of Pershore is urging Observer readers to speak up and raise plenty for charity.
Coun Charles Tucker needs at least 144 people to take part in his Mayorathon on Tuesday, March 12, which will involve participants being sponsored to read their favourite poems, stories, drama or whatever takes their fancy at Pershore Baptist Church.
The event lasts for 12 hours from 9am and all money raised will go to the Mayor's charity - the Acquired Aphasia Trust.
People of all ages can take part, including school children, and it is even hoped some celebrity readers will join in with the fun.
Fund-raisers will be booked to read in five minute slots and asked to raise a minimum of £5 sponsorship.
Readers can have more than one slot if they wish, provided they raise at least £5 for each slot.
Registration and sponsorship forms are now available at the Town Hall on 01386 561561 or from Coun Tucker on 01386 462441.
