THE CHAIRMAN of the Pershore Carnival Committee has said a lack of members could put the future of the event under threat.

The committee is urgently seeking new members following a number of resignations last year and the sad death of town councillor David Shaw last month which has left the group significantly depleted.

Everything is in place to set up another successful carnival this year on Monday, May 27. But Colin Shepherd told the Observer there was concern for what could happen beyond this year.

"We are very low on members at the moment and will run this year's carnival on limited numbers," he said.

"We would welcome anyone who is interested in the Carnival and has the event at heart to join us. It would also be great to hear from any young people who wish to help out.

"We have exciting plans for the Carnival and hopefully it will be another success like last year's event.

"But future carnivals don't make for good reading at the moment because we are struggling to get members and if more people were to resign from the committee then it will be a struggle. So we would welcome people to come forward."

Fund-raising events for this year's carnival have been organised to help spruce up funds.

The committee has announced BBC antiques expert Henry Sandon will be making a special visit to the town on Friday, March 8.

Held at Pershore Town Football Club starting at 7pm, Mr Sandon will talk about his life and will value visitors antiques. Tickets cost £5 and the event will include a bar and refreshments.

Anyone interested in joining the committee or finding out more should call Colin Shepherd on 01386 553585 or drop a letter to Pershore Town Hall.
