Hi: 18° Lo:4° 7 day

IN WHAT is thought to have been a first for Evesham Golf Club, the weekend competition was based on the Chapman format.
Teams are made up of two players, both of whom tee off and then switch balls for their second shot, so player A plays player B's drive and vice-versa.
Each player then hits their second shot following which the team selects the better of the two locations and from that point until the ball is holed they play the one ball in an alternate shot format.
A total of 32 teams entered and the scoring was exceptional, with only fractions separating the top places. Handicap allowances are based on a percentage of the exact handicap.
In third place were long-time leaders from the morning session Russ Leeming and Ian Maycock with a total score of 60.6, as they were just nudged out of second place by Chris Richings and Trevor Woodward with 60.2.
The overall winners, however, with a magnificent 60.0 were the dynamic pairing of now ex-captain Colin Cleary and Tony Smith.
There were seven twos on the day and, with no twos being recorded in the previous week's competition, it was a rollover which meant ten new golf balls to each player.
This competition was the first in charge for newly-elected men's captain Geoff Insall, who rallied the troops in fine fashion in his prize-giving presentation and promised a good and most importantly fun golfing year ahead.
The captain's drive-in is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 when another fiendish scoring system is planned to further confuse the long-suffering members!
