STAFF at Croome Court are celebrating a record breaking start to the year as people defy the cold weather to visit in their droves.
The historic mansion and gardens near Pershore saw more than 1,500 visitors come through its gates last week as people enjoyed its extended opening hours.
The house is now open every day except Tuesdays and the park and lakeside are completely open seven days a week.
Amy Forster, house and visitor services manager, said: "We have thrown open our doors this winter after receiving lots of comments last year that people still wanted to visit us during the winter. The response has been brilliant."
"We felt like we were missing a trick by closing in the week during the winter – so many people would still turn up when we were closed, even if they just wanted to use the play area, have a break in the Restaurant or pop to the shop” she continued.
"With the support of our volunteers, without whom we wouldn’t be able to run Croome, we have been able to open the house six days a week and the park every day."
Croome is a rarity across the country with most historic house and gardens closed or only open at weekends during the winter months. Opening Croome extensively has been a success so far and staff and volunteers hope it will continue into 2014.
Croome Court is open every day except Tuesdays from 12noon until 3pm (last entry 2.30pm) throughout the winter and extends its opening times from February half-term to 11am until 4pm. The park, lakeside, restaurant and shop are open every day throughout the year. In the winter opening times are from 10am until 4pm (last entry and serve time is 3.30pm) and extends until 5.30pm from the half-term.
