Evesham's Blockbuster store to remain open

EVESHAM's Blockbuster store is to remain open despite more than a hundred units facing closure after the company fell into administration.

Bosses from the UK arm of the rental chain announced last week it had appointed administrators to take control of the company putting at risk hundreds of stores across the UK.

But the Observer has been told Evesham's High Street store will stay open despite administrators Deloitte announcing at total of 129 stores were to close as part of a phased closure in addition to the 31 shops which were already put on notice for closure.

Lee Manning, Matthew Smith and Neville Kahn, partners at Deloitte, the business advisory firm, were appointed joint administrators to Blockbuster Entertainment Limited and Blockbuster GB Limited.

Lee Manning, joint administrator, said: “Having reviewed the portfolio with management, the store closure plan is an inevitable consequence of having to restructure the company to a profitable core which is capable of being sold.

"We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time. We are also grateful to the customers for their continued support.”
