ORGANISERS of a big fund-raising event for St Richard's Hospice are calling on Observer readers to warm up and take part.

The Scenic Six event is an annual village run around Peopleton with all proceeds going to the charity which cares for patients and families living with cancer and other life-threatening illness.

This year's fund-raiser takes place on Sunday, April 7, giving people who want to take part plenty of time to get in training.

The main event is a six mile multi-terrain run which takes place around the lanes, fields and footpaths of Peopleton but for those who want a less strenuous day out there is an alternative two mile fun run, jog or walk around the village starting at 11am.

The Scenic Six has grown in popularity over the years and now regularly attracts several hundred entrants.

Lizzie Brazier, St Richard's Hospice community fund-raiser, said: "This is a great family event and we all find strength to run into the village hall afterwards to eat delicious cake made by local WI members. A welcome treat after a jog around the fields!

"We have lots of people joining in of all ages. The appeal of it is you can really do your own thing. Keen runners take on the multi-terrain run while others just take it gently and enjoy the fun run."

Entries are £9 for affiliated club members or £11 for non-members and the Fun Run entry fee is £3. To register download the entry form from www.strichards.org.uk/events. On the day prices go up to £12 or £14.
