HARVINGTON Cricket Club celebrated their promotion to Worcestershire League Division Two at their recent awards night.

The first team finished as runners-up in Division Three to Cookley, who they finished three points behind and were twice denied the opportunity to play due to the weather.

The 1st XI batting award was jointly won by Andrew Fisher (376 league runs) and Jaimen Rudd (league average of 31), whilst the 1st XI bowling award was won by overseas player Jo Venter (49 wickets at an average of 11).

Fellow seamers Ben Hawker and James Towey were congratulated for their efforts with the ball last season.

The 2nd XI finished in lower mid-table in Division Three 2nd XI and Mark Onens won the batting award (average of 26) and Jethro Chadwick the bowling award (24 wickets at an average of 11.88).

Special mentions were given to Fraser Goodlad for his maiden century at Burghill & Tillington and Dave Moulson's 22 league wickets.

The Young Player of the Year honour was awarded to Tom Heywood who joined the club last season and benefited from playing adult cricket and coaching.

He initially began in the Sunday side but by the end of the season was a consistent performer in the Saturday 2nd XI and took 27 wickets at an average of 17.

The Clubman of the Year award went to Steve Shepherd for his efforts as groundsman in a very difficult season due to weather conditions. Steve managed to get many games on when other sides in the surrounding area saw their matches cancelled.

Harvington now look forward to Worcestershire League Division Two in 2013 and entering the National Village Knockout for the first time.

The club are currently recruiting for 2013 with ex-Bearley skipper Lee Ross already signed. The club are looking for players of all ages and abilities who are looking to improve their cricket through coaching. For more information contact Sean Young on 07585 801978.
