Defford sink Old Boys in cup

BRETFORTON Old Boys suffered a second defeat in Group B of the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League Barry Brotherton Cup as they were beaten 4-0 at Defford/Besford United who scored through Ward (2), Marsden and Lawson.

Pinvin United top the group after goals from Bellamy (2) and Upfield accounted for visitors Eckington 3-0.

In Group A Evesham WMC edged out visitors Honeybourne Gate Inn 4-3 as Iorns (2), Ford and Richardson struck for the Workies and Gate netted through Layton (2) and Goss.

Broadway United reached the last eight of the Evesham Mechanical Services KO Cup but were made to work hard against Pershore High Old Boys for their 3-2 home win. Cooper, Horsburgh and Hopkins scored for Broadway and Critcher and Worthington were on the mark for Pershore.

Fladbury Athletic defeated Bredon 3-1 to progress in the Express-Funding Mick Godwin Cup first round thanks to goals from Clements (2) and Brain, whilst Smith’s double put Stratford United 2-1 through at the expense of visitors Vale Wanderers, for whom Ainsworth scored.

In Division Two, AC Olympia’s promotion hopes were dented as they lost 4-1 at WMK in a match which saw Sklenaar score all four goals for WMK and Quemby net for AC Olympia.

Bear march on at the top after Haughty (2), Davis and Smith-Daniel scored in a 4-1 home win against Tesco United, who replied through Dovey.

Stour Excelsior defeated visitors Cheltenham Saints 3-0 as Robins (2) and Carr scored for the Shipston side.

Alderton and visitors Lenches Lions shared six goals, with Greaves (2) and Mitchell scoring for Alderton and Davis (2) and Evans on the mark for Lions.

Goals from Tomes and Cox saw Offenham Rovers overcome visitors Broadway United Reserves 2-0 to maintain their Division Three promotion push, whilst Tewkesbury Town remain in contention following a 5-0 away win at Salford Priors thanks to goals from Driscoll (2), Buckley, Goodwin and Jordan.

Kavla struck twice to give Ecosamba an interval lead at Ambassador before Boulter and Smith scored to earn the hosts a 2-2 draw.

Huckvale and Beasley netted for Gardeners Arms but a Nick Sims double ensured visitors Badsey Recreation clinched a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Anchor Harriers are clear promotion favourites in Division Four and on Sunday they thrashed visitors Bengeworth 10-1 as Williams, Quantrell and Heritage all fired hat-tricks.

Pebworth won 6-1 at Ambi Allsports with goals from McGinley (4), Turner and Williams.

This weekend the league has a one-week Christmas break.
