Pershore celebrates Christmas despite floods

MORE than a hundred people braved the wet weather as Pershore officially celebrated the start of the festive season.

Between 150 and 200 people got into the Christmas spirit in Broad Street on Saturday (November 24) despite the recent floods in the town as Santa and his reindeer made a special visit to brighten up people's moods.

The event, like in previous years, was organised by Pershore Youth Council which is made up of a group of pupils from Pershore High School.

As well as Santa's special visit, the event saw several stalls on display selling all kinds of Christmas gifts, face painting and music from Pershore Town Choir. Refreshments included mulled wine, mince pies and a pig roast.

Pershore town clerk Ann Dobbins said the event had been a success despite the constant showers.

"It went very well despite the fact it poured with rain during the whole time," she said. "We managed to put everything on that we had planned but because of the weather and the floods the turnout was not as high compared to previous years."
