Delivery driver killed in crash near Pinvin

A DELIVERY driver died after sustaining major injuries following a serious road crash near Pinvin.

Inderjit Singh Ojalae, 45, from Pinvin died after the Ford Transit van he was driving in collided with a cement lorry travelling on the B4082 towards Upton Snodsbury on Saturday (November 24) at about 5.20pm.

Mr Ojalae, who was driving along Long Lane, was thrown from his vehicle when the van and lorry collided on the crossroads where both roads meet.

He was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics. The driver of the lorry was unharmed and managed to release himself from the cab which was left on its side in a near ditch.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a lorry and a van that had been in a serious collision. The van was on the road with extensive damage and the lorry was on its side in a ditch.

“The man driving the van had suffered multiple serious injuries, and unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The lorry driver had managed to release himself from his vehicle that was in the ditch before the emergency services arrived. He was checked over at the scene but declined further treatment.”

Police are urging witnesses who saw the collision to come forward as soon as possible.

PC Lee Bluck said: "So far we do not have any independent witnesses to the collision, so Mr Ojalae's family have given consent for his details to be released earlier than usual to encourage people to come forward.

"Mr Ojalae, who was temporarily living in Birmingham but was until recently a Pinvin resident, was working as a sub-contractor for Yodel and was delivering in the area when he was involved in the collision.

"I would urge anyone who saw the collision to contact the police immediately. We also need to speak to anyone who saw either the cement lorry or Mr Ojalae's Yodel van in the area before the crash occurred."
