Hi: 9° Lo:4° 7 day

EVESHAM Golf Club held its final competition of the year in the shape of the traditional Christmas Three Club Challenge.
Missing from the club calendar last year and having had changes to the format in previous years, it was a welcome return for the event which, as the name suggests, means competitors are only allowed to use three clubs.
One of these must be a putter, meaning that part of the skill in doing well in this format is in selecting the correct two free choice clubs.
A popular option was a 3 wood plus an 8 iron, however there were any number of other choices including some favouring two irons.
The Stableford scoring, bearing in mind the limited club selection, was excellent and, although the course was playing shorter than normal due to Winter Tees, the wet conditions made conditions tricky and therefore the scoring all the more impressive.
Prizes were awarded to the top six players with Nick Webb in sixth with 36 points. Fifth was Ian Tyrrell with 37 on countback from Stuart Ridley in fourth.
Third place went to club captain in waiting Geoff Insall with 38, second was Will James with 39 and the overall winner with an incredible 40 points playing off a handicap of 19 was David Kelsall.
It was a fun end of year competition and Evesham Golf Club would like to take this opportunity to wish all of its loyal members and visitors to the club in 2012 a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year and look forward to welcoming you again in 2013.
