A GROUP of concerned parents have joined forces to raise the thousands of pounds needed to buy a new heating system in their children's primary school.
Jane Smith and other parents have organised a late night festive shopping event at Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School on Thursday, November 29, will all proceeds going to the cause.
More than 20 stalls will be on display at the school selling all kinds of Christmas gifts and craft accessories. There will also be a raffle on the night with great prizes to be won.
A new heating system for the school will cost around £8,000 but will be much better at heating the main areas of the school including the hall and classrooms.
Pupils from the Priest Lane school are also getting involved in the event making hand-made gifts which will be available to buy.
And Jane, the mother of Jonty who last year was the centre of a huge fund-raising campaign for a power wheelchair, told the Observer she was looking forward to raising money for the school.
"The heating in the school is really poor at the moment and the poor kids are freezing inside," she said.
"To get a new heating system in place we need to raise funds because the school can't get any grants for it. The PTA held a meeting last week in one of the classrooms and it was really cold so the more the people who can come and support us the better.
"We think holding a night shopping event is a really festive thing to do and we hope to see many people there celebrating the festive season."
The event begins at 7pm and admission costs £2.
