THE 2012 outdoor archery season has been a successful one for Evesham Archery Club.

Seven Evesham archers have shot for the Worcestershire county team this year - Bob Smith, Mike Gilder, Sue Gilder, Sally Gilder, Edward Betteridge, Emily Fletcher and Harriet Fletcher.

Most notable was 16-year-old Sally Gilder's selection to shoot for England in the Junior Euronations competition, which was held in Dublin this year.

The England juniors were particularly dominant in the event and returned with 22 medals - three of which Sally brought home - with a gold in the team event, gold in the junior ladies team and a bronze for individual ladies recurve competition.

Sally finished a really good outdoor season by being ranked fourth junior girl recurve in Great Britain and maintaining her place on the Archery Performance Academy at Archery GB.

Meanwhile, Sarah Trout represented both the Army and Civil Service during the season.

Evesham's main senior archer Linda Haines improved on her previous year's position in the national rankings to 26th in Great Britain, whilst youngster Tazmin Pugh proved to be a good prospect for future success by becoming Evesham's junior girl champion and also Worcestershire Field Archery junior girl champion.

In May Evesham Archery held its First Open Junior Tournament, which saw 14 National records broken.

On November 4 Sally Gilder, her mother Sue and father Mike all competed in the Gwent County Indoor Championships and Open Tournament held by Kingsmark Bowmen at Beechley Army Camp near Chepstow, Gwent.

All three archers were using recurve bows as seen in the Olympics this year and the round they shot was a 'Portsmouth', which is 60 arrows shot at a distance of 20 yards at a target scoring 1 to 10, with the 10 scoring zone being just 6cm in diameter.

Sally won the junior girls section with a score of 549 from a possible 600. Her mother Sue came third out of the ladies and Mike finished third overall in the gents competition, narrowly missing out by just one point as first and second were tied on the same score.

On November 11 Evesham Archery held their 23rd World Record FITA 18 Tournament. There was a very high standard of archers shooting, with Olympic archers and Commonwealth Games medallists present.

Evesham members competing were Jacquie Williams shooting a compound bow as she made a return to competition archery and finished 11th with a score of 520 out of 600.

Sue Gilder finished eighth in the ladies recurve with 483 and Linda Haines was seventh with 498. Sally Gilder won the junior lady recurve with a personal best score of 531.

Mike Gilder was fifth in the gents recurve with a score of 529 and Linda Haines, Sally Gilder and Mike Gilder combined to win the Recurve Team Trophy.

Medals were presented by Naomi Folkard, who has represented Great Britain at the last three Olympics.
