A PERSHORE man who lost his beloved wife to cancer has vowed to help other families suffering the same pain he did.
Geraint Roberts from Lower Moor ran the Cardiff Half Marathon last month in memory of his wife Lynda who died in March 2010 after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
By doing the run, Geraint has so far raised more than £300 for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign which aims to fund a new and dedicated Breast Unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital for use by women and men across the county for all breast related issues.
Geraint, who ran the total distance of 13.1 miles with close friend Marie McNally, completed the route in just under two and a half hours and was cheered on throughout the trek by his children.
And now he wishes to help other families going through the struggles of losing a loved one due to cancer and is organising a bike ride next year to raise even more funds for charity.
"When my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer we spent a lot of time at the hospital and I would like, in a small way, to help other families," he said.
"None of us can bring a complete solution to cancer and the pain it causes but we can all try and play a small part in the journey to finding a cure and to help those fighting it.
"People have been so generous and I have been really pleased by the support. I am planning to raise more funds for the charity next year by organising a coast to coast bike ride. I am currently recruiting friends to get involved, some voluntary some not."
Anyone wishing to donate and support Geraint can do so by visiting his Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/Geraint-Roberts. More information about the campaign can be found at www.everybodyknowssomebody.co.uk.
