POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash which killed an Evesham motorcyclist.
Diana Burgess, 40, was riding her Kawasaki 650CC motorbike along the A46 on Tuesday (October 16) when she collided with a black Peugeot 308 between Ashton-under-Hill and Beckford about 9.45am.
An ambulance, doctor and air ambulance attended the scene, which was on the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border, but they were unable to save Mrs Burgess and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s from Bristol who was driving the car was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and held at Worcester Police Station. He was later released on police bail until December.
Police closed the road for almost four hours and diverted traffic while emergency services carried out their work at the scene and police collision investigators collected evidence. It was finally re-opened at 1.40pm.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a motorcycle that had been in a serious collision with a car.
"The woman riding the motorcycle had suffered multiple serious injuries. Resuscitation attempts were carried out at the scene including advanced life support techniques.
"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medics, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
"No other person was injured in the crash."
Anyone who saw the crash or the vehicles involved on the A46 beforehand is being urged to get in touch with West Mercia Police.
Sgt Matt Eddy, whose team dealt with the collision, said: "We've spoken to a number of witnesses, but we would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw either the car or motorbike travelling along the A46 on Tuesday morning."
Witnesses should contact the non-emergency police number on 101 or information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
