Everyman to host comedy masterpiece

OSCAR Wilde's theatrical masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest, is coming to the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham later this month.

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest comedies in the English language the play combines wonderful characters, sparkling dialogue and gloriously improbable plot twists with a sprinkling of romance.

Jack is in love with Gwendolen. Algernon is in love with Cecily. But when an identity crisis spirals out of control, the previously separate worlds of town and country collide and delicious mayhem ensues. Thoughts of marriage and a happy ending must be put on hold until the inimitable Lady Bracknell can be convinced that the young men are worthy suitors.

The Importance of Being Earnest has delighted millions since its first London performance in 1895.

A scintillating comedy of manners, Oscar Wilde’s best-loved work overflows with dazzling wordplay and comic invention.

London Classic theatre who brought the mesmerising and stylish Equus to the Everyman recently, promise to bring this 19th century classic to vivid, extravagant life with their customary flair, attention to detail, high-quality casting and impeccable production values.

The show gets underway on Tuesday, October 16 and runs until Saturday, October 20. All showings are at 7.45pm. There will also be two matinee performances on Thursday and Saturday at 2pm.

Ticket prices range from £10 to £25 plus booking fee and are available from the box office on 01242 572573 or online at www.everymantheatre.org.uk.
