Netbooks joy for Vale school

PUPILS at a VALE school are celebrating after more than a dozen new laptops arrived thanks to a five-figure Lottery grant.

Sedgeberrow First School were awarded a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund to buy 20 new netbook computers for their pupils to use in the classroom.

The fund, from the National Lottery, gives out millions of pounds across the country to help community groups and projects which improve health, education and the environment.

The School's headteacher Michele Humphreys said the children are loving having the new additions to the school and are hoping to use them to benefit the wider community.

"We are delighted to now have the netbooks with us. It is something we have wanted for a while and the children absolutely love them - and will do wonders as far as their education is concerned.

"The idea In the long term is to involve the local community more so more people can use the netbooks as well as our pupils. I'm sure there are many people here in the village who would love the opportunity to use them.

MP Harriett Baldwin also welcomed the grant of £10,000 to the school and said the laptops will benefit the community in the long term future.

"It is great that so many local communities are able to benefit in this way and I have been impressed by the innovative bids that people have put in to help their communities benefit.

"The National Lottery fund has helped support our Olympians and other big projects but it is important to remember that it supports organisations of all sizes.

"Whilst all the publicity focuses on turning people into millionaires, the fund ploughs millions more back into good causes."
