Hi: 16° Lo:10° 7 day

THERE has been a distinct end of season feel to Evesham Golf Club's seniors' golf over the last couple of weeks.
The last inter-club match was played against Worcester Golf & Country Club at Boughton Park on September 17 and Evesham went down 5-2.
Captain Mike Abraham and Bill Kite did well to record a convincing 4&3 win, whilst John Machin and Mike Whiteford also won 2&1.
Afterwards, Abraham said: "While this was a disappointment, it being our last match, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day which is after all the most important thing.
"As for the season as a whole, whilst we didn't lose a match at home, we also didn't win a match away, which just goes to show the advantage of playing at a home course."
Back in July the Evesham Seniors Open was but one of the casualties of the wet summer, as the event was finally called off in the afternoon after one downpour too many flooded the greens.
Organiser John Smith was then faced with starting all over again to restage the event on September 26, when all his hard work was very much appreciated by the 75 players who teed off for the re-run.
The final results made for grim reading, with many poor scores, however the overall winner was Simon Streather (The Vale).
Mike Abraham (Evesham seniors captain) was runner-up to cap a very good season and Bill Kite (Evesham) was third, which at the same time meant he won the over 70s division. All three had 36 Stableford points and could only be separated after countback.
In the nearest the pin competition, Dave Carsberg, another over 70, was the overall winner as his tee shot finished 22 feet from the hole on the 9th.
However, there is often a price to pay for success, and both Abraham and Kite have had their handicaps cut by one shot. If you are reading this, handicap secretary at The Vale please take note!
