THE CLEANING team responsible for keeping the Vale's streets spick and span have swept the board at an industry awards ceremony.
Wychavon District Council was named as the third best council for cleanliness and was awarded five stars - the highest possible accolade - and an improvement on their score of four stars 12 months ago.
Judges said: "The towns of Droitwich Spa, Evesham and Pershore were extremely picturesque and well kept in their main High Streets and retail areas.
"Broadway is a beautiful village – perfect – 100 per cent."
Wychavon’s waste collection and cleansing contractor is FCC Environment.
Coun Emma Stokes, board member for the environment and contracted services thanked everyone who ensured Wychavon is kept clean on a daily basis.
"Every one of us who have picked up someone else’s rubbish and put it in the bin can be proud of Wychavon being a five star district and bronze award winner," she added.
"Not every council can continue to achieve and actually improve in such tough economic times, so thanks to everyone involved."
The Clean Britain Awards use rigorous criteria to assess litter, aesthetics, waste and appearance of the highways.
Pershore High Street and town centre was also described as a lovely picturesque town high street with an exceptional standard of street cleansing in evidence and Evesham's Abbey Park was described by inspectors as a nice and newly regenerated park.
