AN EVESHAM fireworks company will be looking to sparkle as it bids to be named the best in the business.
Rob Lewis, from G-Force Fireworks which runs the Celebrations Fireworks shop in Inches Lane, is hoping for an explosive display in the British Musical Fireworks Championships which takes place tonight (Friday) in Southport.
The company is fresh from its starring role at the Paralympics closing ceremony when its huge heart firework took centre stage along with rock band Coldplay at the Olympic Stadium and was seen by millions of television viewers as well as a packed 80,000 crowd.
G-Force's entry will include between 14 and 16 minutes of pyrotechnics set to some dance classics including tunes from Saturday Night Fever, Abba and Donna Summers. This is the second time the company have entered for the event after finishing fourth in 2007.
Mr Lewis said the company's choice of music was a fitting as it is the kind of music they hear on a regular basis when doing jobs around the country.
"As a company we arrange fireworks for around 120 weddings a year and we often hear the same, cheesy dance music getting people on their feet and dancing," he said. "So I thought 'if its good enough for our customers, its good enough for this competition' and decided to choreograph our entry to this music.
"As a business we are on a real high after featuring at the Paralympics closing ceremony which was an incredible experience.
"We have come a long way as a company in recent times and it is great to be shortlisted among the best in the country so soon after the Paralympics."
