THE FINALE to this year's Pershore Plum Festival is set to feature the largest selections of plums in its history.
Pershore will once again become a sea of purple as the town's shops, markets, pubs and restaurants all get into the plum festival spirit over the Bank Holiday weekend offering a variety of plums for sale on their menus.
Usually by the end of August, most varieties of the fruit have been and gone but this summer's dismal and persistent wet weather has slowed down the ripening process down by several weeks.
Visitors to the festival's closing ceremony starting tomorrow (Saturday) and going on until Monday (August 27) will be able to sample varieties including Victoria Plums, Pershore Purple Plums, Pershore yellow Egg Plums and Czar Plums.
As well as the plums there will be fun activities going on for all the family including the annual teddy bear parachute jump in Abbey Park, a fun zone on King Georges Field featuring a climbing wall, canoeing, archery, fair rides and boat cruises.
There will also be a special farmers market in Broad Street and the Plum Alley area will provide entertainment and sell all kinds of festival merchandise.
Organiser Angela Tidmarsh said: "Pershore feels like it has won an Olympic gold medal. For the first time ever, the festival will feature all the different types of plums Pershore produce. However there won't be the quantity available so it will be a case of first come, first serve."
