War medals stolen in Evesham burglary

THIEVES have stolen jewellery and a number of Second World War medals after breaking into an Evesham home.

The burglary took place on Thursday (August 2) between 11.40am and 1.20pm when the thieves raided a home off School Lane and ran off with the sentimental items.

Items taken included a 1939-1945 war medal, a 1939-1945 star, a France and Germany star as well as the Defence medal.

Detective Constable Verity Farr is investigating the incident and has urged any witnesses who may seen the incident to come forward.

"Understandably, these medals have immense sentimental value to their owner," she said.

"They have his name and service number on them so if you have recently been offered or bought any of the medals mentioned above, either individually or as part of a set, we would very quickly be able to identify if they are the ones we are looking for.

"This burglary happened during daytime hours and there is a chance that someone in the local area may have witnessed something which could help us with our investigation.

"I would urge anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles or people in the vicinity of School Road on the day of the offence to call us with the details."

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Det Con Farr on 0300 333 3000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
