A VALE children's centre was selected as the host venue for a special food extravaganza to help celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Organised by Love British Food 2012, the Orchard Vale and Spring Vale Children's Centre in Evesham, owned by Worcestershire County council, was one of several lucky children's centres in the country to be chosen to host a celebratory family feast.

The three-course meal included strawberry and lavender lemonade, roast turkey terrine with summer vegetables and baked New York cheesecake. It was cooked by celebrity chef Felice Tocchini who owns Fusion restaurant in Blackminster and his son Dan.

More than 40 families who use the centre were invited to the family feast at the children's centres home at Evesham Methodist Church on Wednesday (August 1) and the day before (Tuesday) were treated to special cooking demonstration.

Evesham Mayor and Mayoress Robert and Diana Raphael also attended the feast as well as other health professionals who were giving food health advice to the families on the day.

Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the London 2012 Festival, said: “We are delighted to be working with Love British Food.  Food is as much a part of our culture as art, theatre and music and 2012 offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Britain’s food heritage.

"Food and sport go hand in hand, so what better way for people to enter into the spirit of the Games than by enjoying Britain’s wonderfully diverse and delicious food with their friends, families and communities."

The event was also supported by several Vale businesses who donated local produce. These were Evesham Market Town Partnership, Blue Gecko Plants, Kanes Foods, Vale Fresco, Sandfields Farm, Evesham Vale Growers, Spring Hill Farm and Primafruit.
