SHOPPERS and businesses in Evesham are being given a boost with the launch of a new loyalty card in the town and thousands of pounds up for grabs.
The scheme, which is being jointly funded by Worcestershire County Council, Wychavon District Council and Evesham Market Town Partnership, is looking to encourage more people to spend their money in town shops.
More than 70 businesses have already signed up to the idea which is set to launch on October 1.
Loyalty card holders will receive a stamp each time they buy something for £5 or more from a participating business and after 15 stamps the card can be entered into a monthly prize draw with the winner selected at random receiving £1,000 worth of vouchers to be spent in the town.
As well as 12 monthly prizes of £1,000 a grand finale draw will be held next November with all the entries from the year included. The winner of this will scoop a £3,000 cash prize.
Shawn Riley, Evesham Market Town Partnership manager, called on residents to back the scheme.
"Our aim is to remind local people what a fantastic range of businesses we have in our town centre, from independent shops, High Street retailers and restaurants, to cafes, museums and arts centres," he said.
"Scores of town businesses have joined the scheme and we’re calling on residents to back it too. When it launches, all you’ll need to do is grab a card from any business with the Loyalty Card sticker in the window and support Evesham."
Among the dozens of participating businesses are Evesham Discount Tackle, Tiles Naturally, Word of Mouth café and The Trumpet Inn.
Karen Swayne from The Trumpet Inn said: "Everyone knows it’s been tough for businesses all over the country for some time now and I think it’s great that the Market Town Partnership is doing something positive to help local traders.
“I’m very happy to be part of any scheme to boost Evesham’s economy. Loads of businesses have signed up and hopefully shoppers will back the Loyalty Card too.”
Louise Roberts, from Word of Mouth, added: "Any way that my lovely, loyal customers can be thanked us great. I’m delighted to be on board with the scheme.”
Retailers can sign up to the scheme at www.eveshamloyaltyscheme.co.uk while shoppers can pick their Loyalty Cards in participating shops in the run up to the launch.
