A CHARITABLE youngster from Elmley Castle has embarked on an Olympic sized mission to raise a bumper amount for charity.

Jake Phipps set off last month in a bid to become the first person to cycle to every Olympic venue in Britain and has just passed the halfway point.

The 12-year-old started at Hampden Park in Scotland and will cycle 2012km in just 40 days in aid of charities Action for Children and Access Sport.

He is set to reach the Olympic Stadium in London on July 18.

Jake said: "It has been a fantastic experience so far and we have met some amazing people.

"I have really enjoyed being out on the road, although it’s very hard work at times."

Since setting off Jake has visited St James’ Park in Newcastle, Old Trafford in Manchester, Coventry City Stadium, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy.

Along the way he met current and future British Olympians to add to meeting Olympic heroes Sir Steve Redgrave and British cyclist Ed Clancy MBE.

Jake’s efforts are being supported by Hornby Hobbies, which is donating £1,000 to Jake’s nominated charities and providing Jake with a range of kit for his challenge.

Hornby will also be presenting Jake with a special treat when he reaches the Olympic Stadium.
