SEVEN members of Evesham Archery Club competed in the 39th Open American round held by Redhill Archers, Wythall.

Even though the field was very wet and there were intermittent showers, everyone from the Evesham club shot well.

The American round is the same for both ladies and gents archers, shooting at 60, 50 and 40 yards, at each of the three distances as the archer has to shoot 30 arrows, with the maximum any archer can achieve being a total of 810.

Mike Gilder, shooting a recurve bow, shot a personal best of 728 and came eighth in the gents recurve round.

Andy Wilkes and Bob Smith, both shooting compound bows, had the same score of 772, with Wilkes just pipping Smith to eighth place by having one more arrow in the gold.

Lawrance Fletcher, shooting in his first competition since taking up a compound bow, came 14th with a more than respectable score of 684.

Shooting a recurve bow, Sue Gilder came away with the first class medal as she finished fourth in the ladies event with a score of 621.

Her daughter Sally Gilder, shooting a recurve bow, shot a personal best score of 684 and came away with the Hi Ball Glass trophy for the junior girls shooting the adult round.

Alfie Wilkes, shooting a compound bow, won the Hi Ball Glass trophy with a score of 768 in the short junior American round, which is shot at 40, 30 and 20 yards.
