HUNDREDS of people took to the track for Evesham Relay for Life and raised tens of thousands of pounds for a cancer charity.

More than 30 teams took part in the 24-hour event at Evesham High School on Saturday and Sunday (June 23 and 24) raising a total of £41,500 so far for Cancer Research UK.

But with the money still rolling in the final total is expected to climb when it is announced in August.

Spirits were still high despite heavy rain in the evening and overnight as dozens of survivors began the event with a lap of honour.

Nightfall saw the candle of hope ceremony take place where candles were lit in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

People then bedded down for the night while others remained on the track to continue the fund-raising.

Away from the track there were plenty of activities, stalls and live entertainment to keep the hundreds of people who had turned out to watch and support entertained.
