EVESHAM Rowing Club’s junior squad competed at the annual Stratford Regatta, which is held on the River Avon over 750m.
The first win for Evesham came from Katie Griffiths in the WJ16 single sculls.
Rowing up a year, she made her mark from the start and won the race in style, finishing a couple of lengths ahead of her opposition from Worcester.
Winning a race at J16 meant that she won her Novices and so she went for a very well deserved swim in the river, being thrown in by her team-mates.
The next win came from Lauren Caddy and Ellie Smith in the WJ16 double sculls who also earned themselves a dip in the river.
Again these girls were racing up a year and they made a strong impression from the beginning.
The pair rowed a very strong race to take the win from two very good Stratford girls.
Two Evesham crews battled it out in the final of the Women’s Novice double sculls.
It proved a hard fought affair with Hattie Beech and Sadie Bryan just edging out Bessie Stelnicki and Iona Foister to get themselves a swim in the river.
All five novice winners from this weekend will also be awarded with their caps at the end of season dinner in October.
The penultimate win for Evesham came from the WJ12 coxed quad of Gilly Russell, Ellie Richardson, Sian Bird and Daisy Furrokh expertly coxed down the bendy and windy course.
For the last 12 years the coaches coaching this age group have never beaten Ross Rowing Club, but this crew were going to change this! They won by almost a length after a very close, neck and neck race.
The final race of the day for Evesham was the WJ14 coxed quad of Maddie Baker, Frances Russell, Rhia Woodford and Alice Clements fantastically coxed by Katie Griffiths.
They pushed off their opposition from Stratford Boat Club, to gain themselves an easy win by more than four lengths.
