MEMBERS of a Vale touch rugby team are looking spick and span following a generous donation of brand new kit.

The RFU (Rugby Football Union) wanted to recognise Pershore Rugby Club's growing status as a centre for the non-contact version of the sport and awarded them ten touch rugby balls, two sets of coloured bibs, cones for pitch marking, a referee whistle, stop watch and starter horn as well as a ball pump.

Stuart Eades, RFU Midlands regional development officer, said: "Pershore has shown tremendous success with developing touch rugby, spearheaded by its women’s section, which now has more than 30 women touch rugby members as well as a growing girls section.

"The club has staged two touch rugby tournaments at its Wyre Piddle grounds - one for round seven of the Midlands Ladies Touch Rugby League, in which Pershore came third, and another taster tournament for girls a week ago, which was attended by more than 50 school girls from across the county."

Pershore RFC is now offering touch rugby for men and boys and is staging an open 'Touch Rugby Tournament for all' on Sunday, July 8 from 10am until 4pm.

Anyone can enter a team, at no cost, made up of 6 players, with unlimited substitutions, of any age or ability from their workplace, family, or simply from a group of friends. Teams can be mixed or not and Pershore are offering three, free taster sessions at the club on Sunday mornings from 10am until midday for anyone wanting to have a go at the game or brush up their skills before they enter a team in the tournament.

For more information on having a go at touch rugby, or to enter a team in the July 8 tournament players can contact Karl Evans on 07788 140830. Women can contact Fizz Bewley on 01905 381080.
