Tesco top but await promotion fate

TESCO UNITED ended their Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League programme with a 3-0 home win over Gardeners Arms to move back to the top of Division Three.

They must now await results from elsewhere to see if they are to clinch promotion.

Tesco's goals came from Rock, Worthington and Turley.

Lenches Lions moved second after coming from behind to defeat leaders and visitors Bear 3-2 with goals from Evans (2) and Johns, whilst Scrivens struck twice for Bear.

AC Olympia lifted the GFA Sunday Minor Cup with a 5-4 extra time win over Black Bear Reserves in a match which was a credit to the league.

Division Four leaders Ambassador were beaten 2-1 at promotion-chasing Anchor Harriers as the home side scored through Crenan and Townsend, with Cox on target for Ambassador.

Goals from Quoite (2), Wilsden, Terry, Hart and Gisbourne earned hosts George & Dragon the points with a 6-1 victory against Cider Mill Reserves, whilst Sun Inn powered to a 9-1 home win over Oberthur as Will Major and Parry both bagged hat-tricks.

Elmley Castle edged to a 3-2 victory at Alcester Town with goals from Bate, Withers and Jinks and Alcester scored through Beach and Greenwood.

Defford & Besford United moved a step closer to the Division Two title with a 4-1 home victory over Offenham Rovers in which the goals came from Ward, Croy, Barton and Thomas.

Second placed Eckington lost 2-0 at Stour Excelsior who scored through Carr and Harris and, with games in hand, Evesham WMC could still gain promotion after strikes from James and Grady earned a 2-1 victory at Ashton-under-Hill, who netted through Ross.

A headed goal from Jake Pettitt with seconds remaining saw Black Bear edge out Cider Mill 3-2 to reach the Express-Funding Mick Godwin Cup final.

Black Bear had twice led through Paddock and Sklenar, only for Cider Mill to level through Bullock and Ballard.

Honeybourne Gate Inn reached the last four with a 4-1 victory at Wickhamford Sports as the Gate scored through Dan Sherry, C Sherry, Tomes and Andrews.

Bretforton Old Boys moved back to the top of Division One with a surprisingly comfortable 10-0 win at fourth placed Pinvin United in which Wallace (3), Gayton (2), Richardson (2), Smith-Daniel (2) and Witts were on target for Old Boys.

Broadway United comfortably won 7-0 at Golden Cross as Jason Horsburgh scored a hat-trick.

Red Horse defeated Worcester-based Perrywood 4-1 to reach their third final of the season and set up a mouth-watering showdown with Black Bear in the Evesham Hospital Sunday Junior Cup.

In the Minor Cup, holders Bredon reached the final with a narrow 2-1 win over Fladbury Athletic and their opponents will be Tewkesbury-based WMK who won 4-2 at Alderton.

LITTLETON FC will host the Evesham Mechanical Services Knockout Cup final on Sunday evening (5pm) between Bretforton Old Boys and Red Horse.
