EVESHAM Golf Club Ladies’ section enjoyed a week of celebrations culminating in a grand birthday party, held as part of Lady Captain’s day on Tuesday.
Thirty-five ladies took part in a Drop Out Texas Scramble competition playing in teams of four and being fortified on the 12th by a welcome glass of Pimm’s served by Ladies’ Captain Lesley Kewley.
The competition was won by the quartet of Ruth Masters (captain), Jenny Masser, Patsy Brumage, Beryl Osborne with 45 points.
The runners-up were Melanie Evans, Val Lemon, Dee Machin and Jane Bagley with 43 points, while Lesley Curnock, Pam Hutcheon and Julie Winter finished third after scoring 40 points despite being depleted.
Many non-playing members then joined in the party to enjoy a most delicious tea of sandwiches, strawberries and cream thanks to Will and his team.
The presentation started with winners from the previous week, when a medal competition had been played for the Rose Bowl and the Liza Lightfoot Trophy.
Liza Lightfoot presented her trophy to Melanie Evans who won with gross 91 from Ruth Masters and Jenny Marston who both carded gross 92.
Melanie was also presented with the Rose Bowl for a best nett 72 with Verity Lawrance finishing runner-up with nett 73.
The Medal results for non-qualifiers saw success for Val Lemon with nett 81 in the Bronze A Division from Margaret Williams nett 82.
The Bronze B Division winner was Dinah Wood nett 78 from Sally Rogers nett 81.
The grand finale was a fantastic cake by Enid Walker, candles, fireworks and balloons and presents for all the ladies who have or will celebrate birthdays, ending in zero and starting with at least seven, this year.
It was a superb day for which grateful thanks are extended to the captain.
