WORCESTERSHIRE Grasstrack Club stages its first meeting of the season on Sunday at Cladswell Hall Farm, Knowle Fields, near Inkberrow, with the Mick Burton Memorial Trophy Charity Meeting.
The chosen charity for 2012 is the ACU Benevolent Fund and there will be five solo classes and two sidecars classes.
The top boys of the 500cc Solo Class will be also competing for the Mick Burton Challenge Trophy, presented by Mrs Heather Burton, and points towards the Buildbase Championship.
Last year’s winner was speedway star David Howe, whilst previous winners including Midlands favourite, the Cotswold Express Tim Nobes, and Charlie Saunders, will be competing for these two trophies.
Howe and Nobes are yet to meet this year so some intense competition is in store.
The rest of the field has some very quality riders from all over country competing in all classes - 250cc, 350cc and 500cc - including Pre75 and Upright Solo Classes.
The meeting also welcomes back the 500cc Sidecar Class, including its club champions Dave Carvill and Karl Webb and long distance travellers Shaun Harvey and Danny Hogg.
The 1,000cc righthand sidecars include Master Champion Rod Winterburn with Liam Brown as passenger for the 2012 season.
Mark Cossar will be defending his Buildbase Championship title from 2011 and runner-up Winterburn - who has previously won the championship - will be a strong contender to regain the trophy this season.
RPM Action Sports, the makers of Blood Sweat and Gears, are with the club to arrange television broadcasting on Motors TV for the 2012 season, whilst the club is very grateful to Buildbase for its support for another year and also to S E Davies for the help with ground work.
Sunday’s programme has 38 races with top named riders in the supporting classes and also all the regular riders. Practice is between 11am-noon and the first race is at 12.30pm. The programme format has been changed, so do not be late!
Admission is £10 for adults and £8 for concessions, senior citizens and 12 to 16-year-olds, whilst under 12s go free of charge.
There is disabled parking and toilets at all the club’s meetings. A family ticket - two adults accompanied by two children - is £17 and programmes are £1.
