Busy time as weather improves

By Liam Moakes 21/05 Updated: 21/05 14:46

IT HAS been a busy few weeks at Evesham Golf Club as the season starts to pick up after the recent bad weather.

Saturday, May 5 saw junior captain Scott Ridley capture the Roger Knight Trophy with an excellent score of 67.

His win came by the slimmest of margins over Paul Callaghan, who also scored 67 but lost out on the back six countback.

Callaghan did, however, have the consolation of winning the National PGA Pro-Am Qualifier and will now partner club professional Dan Clee in the Midland Qualifier at Little Aston GC in July.

The club has an excellent record in this competition with Clee and Mark Harrison qualifying for the National Finals in Las Vegas last year and everyone hopes this year's duo can repeat that achievement and make it to the final again this year, which is being held in Cancun, Mexico, in December.

The weekend just gone was the May Medal and Hospital Bowl and the overall winner with a superb nett 67 was Barrie Saggers, who is in a real run of good form currently.

Second in Division One was captain Colin Cleary with 69, followed by ever-improving youngster Alex Clasen with 70 and the entire top three saw their handicaps reduced from 10 to 9.

In Division Two the winner was Ian Wood with 71, Andrew Budnik was second on countback and third was Cliff Edwards with 73.

It is noticeable the overall scoring of late has been slightly higher than in recent past and this is directly attributable to both the increased growth on the course and a good course management policy.

As a result, the course is in excellent condition with well-defined fairways, first cut and rough that make for fair, but exacting conditions and a great test of golf for players of all abilities.

Visitors are more than welcome and there are still a very limited number of vacancies available at a special promotional rate.
