A WOMAN who dedicates her life to caring for other people has been honoured with a prestigious award.

Mary Tasker, manager at Hawthorns Care Centre in Church Street, Evesham, was named manager of the year at Shaw healthcare's annual Shaw Star Awards.

The 45-year-old was recognised for creating a positive atmosphere at the centre and also praised for her own caring qualities, for driving high standards of care and for always having time for the home's residents.

Mary said she was delighted to have been honoured. "It is fantastic to know what you do is so valued," she said.

"Nothing beats getting a thank you from those you care for or their families, but to receive an award like this is the next best thing, so I’d like to thank everyone who made this possible."

The ceremony saw more than 200 of Shaw's staff gather at the Hilton Hotel in Swindon to celebrate the very best care workers across the country.

Jeremy Nixey, chief executive at Shaw healthcare, added: "The Shaw Star Awards are all about celebrating the great contribution of our staff, and the hard work and dedication they show on a daily basis to ensure our standards of care are the very best that they can be.

"As an employee-owned company, we feel it’s important that we acknowledge those that go above and beyond the call of duty in their care, so these awards are for them.

"I would like to congratulate all the winners and nominees, and to thank every one of our fantastic team that continue to do us proud."
