Come and back the boys!

THE BIGGEST game of the season takes place at Evesham Rugby Club tomorrow and officials are urging townsfolk to come and back the team as they bid to take a huge step towards Midlands Three West (South) survival.

The match against fellow relegation battlers Redditch has also been designated as Legends Day at the club and will see a gathering of former players, sponsors and supporters in the clubhouse, so a fun-filled afternoon and evening is in store.

The buffet will open at 1.30pm and the bar will be open all afternoon, whilst on the pitch the Vale side will look to secure a crucial victory over the visiting Kingfishers.

The hosts go into the match two points ahead of their visitors and three above bottom side Old Yardleians.

However, following the recent withdrawal of Keresley from the league due to their player availability struggles, it means only one side will be relegated.

Therefore a victory for an Evesham side who also have a game in hand on the bottom two would almost certainly see them on their way to survival.

Coach Gary Diston, whose side earned a crucial 25-15 victory at Old Yardleians in their last encounter, said: “The 2011/12 season is a campaign where we have lost several players to retirement, university or work commitments.

“We are building the team back up to its former strength, but we have struggled for wins this season, so we’d really like the public to pack the touchlines and join our legends to give the team their biggest and most supportive crowd yet this season.

“It’s a vital game and it would be great to see plenty of faces, both old and new, at the club on Saturday.”
