HUGE celebrations were held in a Vale village when a vital life-line service returned to the community.

Flyford Flavell's village shop re-opened on Friday (May 11) after it closed in January due to the retirement of then owners Mike and Leena Sheppard.

The closure meant villagers were forced with the inconvenience to travel miles and outside the village to do their day-to-day shopping.

But now Bridget Jewell, who used to work in the shop, has come to the villagers rescue and secured a lease on Flyford Flavell Stores and re-opened it back to its former glory.

Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff joined in with celebrations and cut the ribbon to officially open the store again.

"It was really wonderful to see the village come out again only four months later to celebrate such a happy occasion," he said.

"The Sheppard's did so much for Flyford Flavell but they had earned their retirement. Bridget is also a much loved figure in the village and I am sure the community will rally behind her and the use the stores as enthusiastically as they did until this January.

"At a time when so many villagers are losing their facilities pubs, garages and shops - it is great to see Flyford Flavell buck the trend and get its shop back."
