A TEACHER from Wyre Piddle overcame the odds to finish as one of the top women runners in the London Marathon.
Emma Gooderham, who works at Bowbrook House School in Peopleton, was not sure until two days before Sunday's (April 22) event whether or not she would take part because of injuries.
But the mother of two decided to battle through and finished in an incredible time of 2 hours 46 minutes and 55 seconds placing her sixth out of the mass field of 35,000.
Including the elite runners Emma was placed 32nd and the 13th British woman home.
Emma, who has now competed in five out of the last six marathons, said she could not resist the temptation again.
Her busy life, which also involves wedding cake making, means she had to get up at 5am to fit in the training.
"It is all totally worth it when you run London Marathon, there is nothing quite like it and every time I finish it is very emotional," she said.
"However without the support I have from my family I would not have achieved as much as I have and I thank them for putting up with me as it can get tough at times.
"The support from my club Malvern Joggers was also fantastic on the day and hearing them cheer me on certainly distracted me from the task ahead and helped me go that little bit faster."
