POLICE are keen to trace a vital witness who helped a cyclist get back on his feet after he crashed and fell in Evesham last month.

The incident happened at the junction of Coronation Street with Elm Road on Monday, March 23 about 7.15am when a vehicle approached the cyclist from behind before hitting him.

But the vehicle failed to stop after the accident which left the cyclist with fractures to his face and hand.

PC Alexander McPherson from Evesham police station said: "I appreciate this incident happened some time ago now, but we are particularly keen to trace the person who helped the cyclist to his feet after coming off his bike.

"It would appear this person saw what happened and may be a vital witness in connection with our investigation into this collision.

"Unfortunately the victim has little memory of the incident and cannot offer either a description of the vehicle he collided with or of the person who came to his aid.

"This collision could have been a lot worse and it is fortunate that the cyclist was not seriously injured. Because of this I would appeal directly to the person who helped the cyclist on the day and anyone else who was in the area and saw what happened to get in touch."

Anyone with any information about the incident should call PC McPherson on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
