AN EVESHAM woman who ran her ex-partner over and killed him has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Karen Colley, 47, from Ash Grove, was sentenced today (Friday) after being convicted last month at Worcester Crown Court of manslaughter following the death of Allan 'Charlie' Brown.

The court heard after a breakdown in the pair's relationship Mr Brown, from Bretforton, was staying at a campsite in Mill Lane Eckington. In the early hours of October 5 2010, Colley drove to the site while drunk to confront him.

This led to an altercation between the pair and following dangerous driving on the site from Colley, Mr Brown was dragged under the wheels of her car. The 44-year-old died four days later in hospital from crush injuries.

The jury unanimously found Colley guilty of manslaughter and judge Robert Juckes also handed her a ten-year driving ban and sentenced her to three months imprisonment for the drink driving offence, which will be served concurrently.

Detective Sergeant David Hall of Worcester CID, who investigated the case, said Colley's actions were highly dangerous and could have harmed other residents living on the campsite.

"The tragic death of Allan Brown occurred during the acrimonious breakdown of his relationship with Karen Colley," he said.

"The night he sustained his fatal injuries, Colley behaved aggressively and violently at the campsite. She was extremely reckless that evening, driving drunk to Eckington.

"On her arrival at the campsite after arguing with Mr Brown she continued to drive in a very dangerous manner. Her actions resulted in his death and could have harmed other site residents.

"I would like to thank Mr Brown's parents for all the support they gave our investigation and I hope the conclusion of the case provides them with some comfort after the loss of their son."
