A POPULAR glazing business based in the heart of Evesham is set to close its doors for good after more than half a century of trading.
Albert Powers, owner of AE Powers Glass and Glazing on Elm Road, has decided the time is now right to pack up his workshop tools and will shut down the home of his family business at the end of the month.
The company launched in 1958 in Albert's back garden in North Littleton. He started it as a painter and decorator business before moving to Elm Road in 1983 and expanding to include glass and glazing supplies.
"This has been a very difficult decision to make but I just felt this was the right time to close down," Albert told the Observer.
"It is sad to be doing this but I am very proud of the work we have done over the 55 years. I think my proudest moment was setting up the house here in Elm Road and seeing the business grow. At one stage we had eleven employees here and has been a superb spot for us all.
"I have had fantastic support and since I have made my announcement I have had customers for whom I worked with when I first started out come to me and give me cards to send me my best wishes.
"I would like to thank my superb and loyal staff including my daughter Mandy who have supported me all along. It has been lovely to be part of a successful business and I am definitely going to miss it."
