POLICE are warning drivers who might be tempted to drink and drive they will not hesitate in arresting and charging anyone who supplies a positive breath test.
It comes after three men were caught driving in Evesham while over the limit in less than two hours in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 1).
All three were charged with driving a vehicle when their alcohol level was above the legal limit and will appear at Worcester Magistrates' Court later this month.
The first man caught, a 32-year-old from Halesowen, was arrested on the A46 at 1.15am after a member of the public reported
a vehicle being driven erratically on the road. His roadside breath test was found to be nearly two and a half times the legal limit.
Then at 1.50am, a 25-year-old man from Evesham was arrested in Castle Street after being spotted driving a car erratically and he provided a roadside test nearly twice the legal limit.
Finally a 44-year-old man from Evesham was arrested in Cooper's Lane at 2.50am after he was stopped by officers who saw him driving along Waterside at excessive speed. His roadside sample read as being more than twice the legal limit.
Sgt Pete Nightingale from Evesham Police Station said: "These three arrests were within the space of less than two hours and demonstrate that we are routinely stopping and catching drink-drivers.
"I hope the three men's forthcoming appearance in court will be a strong deterrent to anyone thinking of drinking and driving in Evesham, or anywhere else in the West Mercia Police area, that we will arrest and prosecute people for driving while drunk.
"You are putting yourself and other road users in danger and we will not tolerate such irresponsible and selfish behaviour."
