THE LIFE of a talented Vale teenager will be celebrated this weekend with a special football match set to be held in his honour.

A big crowd is expected to turn out to remember Scott Holden, who was found dead in his family home in Newlands on Christmas Eve, on Sunday (February 5) at Pershore Town Football Club's ground on King George's Field.

The 16-year-old, a student at Pershore High School, was a keen footballer and played as a striker for Drakes Broughton Rangers Football Club's under-16 team.

The team will play a combined side of Fladbury, Crowle and Inkberrow Football Club under 16s (kick-off 2pm) and funds raised throughout the day will go to the Midlands Air Ambulance - the charity chosen by Scott's family.

Ian Wilcox, club secretary of Drakes Broughton Rangers Football Club, said Scott was hugely missed and the game will be a great occasion to remember him by.

"Scott was a hugely popular player and is terribly missed by his teammates and the club in general," he said.

"The Committee of Drakes Broughton Rangers Football Club are very grateful to Pershore Town Football Club who have kindly offered full use of the club's ground for this special match, in loving memory of a special person.

"The club also wish to express thanks to Clive Corbett and all at Pershore High School for printing the match-day programmes and promoting the game.

"We hope as many of the community will attend and honour the life of this fine young man."

The Evesham Football Youth League will sponsor the match and have renamed the League Under 16s cup as 'The Scott Holden Memorial Cup'.
